My First Talking Doll
Of course I had no clue where to get such a doll. So I looked on Google and I saw some information. I also saw that you can find them on eBay. Me not being an eBay fan at the time, thought I'd give it a try. I saw several Chatties but most of them had flaws and couldn't talk. I didn't mind if they were mute.
I also saw Charmin' Chatties who were referred as Chatty Cathy's cousin. Just having such an old, beautiful (and a lil' creepy) would make me happy, I figured. If the doll would look bad or dirty, I'd clean her and I'd do everything it would take make her displayable. So I talked to my other half; he agreed to get ONE doll. One. Sure. I was okay with that. But since the Chatty Cathy dolls were rather expensive, I concentrated on the Charmin' Chatty at first.
This 1961 Charmin' Chatty in the picture I purchased in May 2008 for $64.99. She was in good, used condition. The big advantage is that she can talk. She came with little records that you shove in the side of the doll. She was a little dirty so I washed her up with Dawn dish liquid, washed her hair with Dawn, conditioned it with my own conditioner and now she looks much better. I even got her the original sailor Charmin' Chatty outfit to wear which was really hard to find.
